Our Campus

Find out more about our campus design for Chengdu Westminster School.

Some of the great icons of London form the backdrop for Westminster School and our design approach makes reference to this context and the school's British heritage without becoming pastiche, instead creating a new vernacular that marries these influences with the demands of the Chinese international school sector

A living experience

Promoting Curiosity and Individual Interests: Overall Excellence

Sport, Drama, Music and Art all feature prominently in the School life, CWS’s Abbey includes a state of the art 1,000 seat theatre, and a black-box theatre with retractable seating for 300 people. The Music Pavilion has two recital halls and there are further 70 music practice rooms distributed between the teaching and boarding block. Exhibition space abounds in the Art Pavilion.

Prioritising Well-being: Physical, Mental and Social

As well as just focusing on the physical and mental well-being of CWS pupils, through a varied co-curricular programme, the Houses provide a safe and homely environment for the pupils. Located on the eastern side of the campus, CWS boarding houses have been designed with the provision of pastoral care and the creation of a family atmosphere as priorities. Each house has its own front door leading to a shared ground floor with kitchen, gym, study room and lounge and all leading to a courtyard to create an active social hub.

Lifelong Learners: Flexible and Adaptable Thinkers

Being first and foremost an educational institution, the school’s learning spaces provide continuous and diverse opportunities for self-development. The CWS Campus has a unique ‘Learning Resource Spine’. What connects all the teaching buildings is a dynamic space that incorporates the library and an array of flexible learning and social environments, interlocked with the STEM innovation labs and project zones, from a projection and presentation staircase to a multimedia auditorium. It is in this unique environment that we further encourage collaboration and creativity, to meet the Westminster ethos.

Our new school, located in Mumashan in Shuangliu, will establish new standards for School Campus design in China. Designed by the award winning, internationally recognised architectural firm Broadway Malyan, CWS’s campus will bring a world of new opportunities to pupils all over China. Having worked on educational projects for over twenty years, Broadway Malyan has successfully integrated the Westminster ethos into their Campus design. Creating a stimulating learning environment, the exceptional facilities are not limited to support the pupil’s academic interests, but their social, personal and all-round well-being.
